'Muramba' (2017) (dir. Varun Narvekar) is one of those films that seems to try so hard to be real it has characters spouting "don't be so typical" every time somebody says a melodramatic or clichéd line. This is one of the film's main flaws, and it is equally hindered by slow pacing (either a function of the edit or the screenplay I couldn't tell) which takes away from the comic moments of the film. The male leads (Amey Wagh, Sachin Khedekar) come across as too theatrical even while the female leads (Mithila Palkar, Chinmayi Sumit) do a lot to bring the freshness the trailer promises. What the film does do well is explore the generation gap between the way parents and their children approach relationships, and the story does have quite a few relateable moments. All in all, this one can be skipped unless you're in the mood for some old-style Marathi cinema in a somewhat-new bottle.
