Poem: 'Fix'

Updated: Jan 7, 2021

If you are a woman, you know

it doesn’t take much to fix yourself up.

Make-up to hide your lines, define

eyelashes, cheekbones and lips, tips

you learnt from your mother or friend , in the end

a little collagen here, a tummy tuck there

a couple of curlers in your hair

is all it takes to fix your face, eliminate all trace

of suffering and joy and pain, maintain

the image of you intact, pristine. In fact

all it takes is just some paint and glue,

just a few stitches to restore you

to factory condition:

virgin pure, demure

all fixed up – unbroken.
